Photographic Project 'The Sloth'

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Imagine yourself immersed in the tranquil atmosphere of the Atlantic Forest, observing sloths in their natural habitat. This is the heart of this new photography project dedicated to capturing the serenity and beauty of these adorable arboreal mammals. My official residence is in Portugal, so the time dedicated to these adorable beings is not as much as I would like. I have some photographs to be developed, and many videos to transform.

GOALS

The main objective is to document the lives of sloths in the Atlantic Forest, highlighting their importance for this ecosystem and promoting awareness about the conservation of this unique habitat. I want to share the captivating stories I experienced and inspire readers to respect and care for the wildlife in this place.

TIMELINE

  1. Research and Planning: Being a relatively new animal for me, the first phase of the project was reflected in my first visit, where I tried to research more about this species, what its behaviors are, which trees it prefers to feed on and which trees it prefers to sleep in, what are the best camera settings, among others.

  2. Image Capture: The main phase of the project, the one that will give me the most headaches and where I will spend hours observing and photographing sloths in their natural habitats.

  3. Editing and Selection: Careful selection of the best images captured and careful editing to highlight the natural beauty of the sloths and create a visual impact on the reader.

  4. Dissemination and Awareness: Sharing photographs and videos of sloths on social media, creating promotional content, photography exhibitions and workshops about the species to engage the general public and promote the conservation of the species.

MY EXPERIENCE

The idea for this project was born from the enthusiasm created around this animal, and the lack of knowledge that most of us have about it. Its importance for the Atlantic Forest. Each encounter with the sloths was a unique experience, filled with serenity and wonder. Having the opportunity to capture them through my camera, spending hours documenting them, the patience I had, and now being able to share all their beauty, complexity and dexterity.

In short, this photography project of sloths in the Atlantic Forest is more than a search for the best photographs. It's trying to show a little of the beauty of these animals, increase their preservation and their importance to the world. Join me on this epic journey with sloths.

WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY?

When we're photographing, it's easy to lose track of what we should or shouldn't focus on, whether it's the most common species or the rarest, whether we're trying to photograph during the day or at night. I created some articles to show you what you can look for in certain places to photograph.
