Monfragüe é conhecido pela sua extraordinária diversidade de aves, sendo um dos melhores locais da Europa para a observação de aves de rapina. Foi a minha primeira visita a este local fantástico, sendo que já tinha ouvido falar, mas nunca tinha tido oportunidade de o visitar. Quis o destino que fosse lá em trabalho, tendo tido apenas alguns minutos para conseguir tirar algumas fotografias. Umas foram de registo, para ajudar na identificação das rapinas que voavam muito alto nos céus. Logo ao nascer do dia tivemos alguma sorte, pois a chuva tinha caído com o despertar do sol. Mas terminou alguns minutos depois de chegarmos, o que permitiu esperar para observar os grifos. Mas a magia ainda estava para chegar, pois de repente todos os indivíduos esticaram as asas para se conseguirem secar aos poucos raios de sol que conseguiam quebrar a barreira de nuvens. Foi um momento mágico que nunca mais irei esquecer. Da parte da tarde tivemos centenas de grifos a voar mesmo por cima das nossas cabeças, alguns tão perto que nem os conseguia enquadrar na câmara. Uma bela despedida deste maravilhoso local que irei regressar novamente.

Monfragüe is known for its extraordinary diversity of birds, making it one of the best places in Europe for observing birds of prey. It was my first visit to this fantastic place, as I had already heard about it, but had never had the opportunity to visit it. As fate would have it, I went there for work, having only had a few minutes to take some photos. Some were recorded, to help identify prey that flew very high in the skies. Right at dawn we had some luck, as the rain had fallen with the awakening of the sun. But it ended a few minutes after we arrived, which allowed us to wait to observe the griffins. But the magic was yet to come, as suddenly all the individuals stretched their wings to dry themselves in the few rays of sun that managed to break the cloud barrier. It was a magical moment that I will never forget. In the afternoon we had hundreds of griffon vultures flying right above our heads, some so close that I couldn't even get them on camera. A beautiful farewell to this wonderful place that I will return to again.
